Description

Applications
Chemical seals/gaskets, non-stick coatings, semiconductor components, bearing liners, medical tubing, electrical insulators
Strengths
Extreme chemical inertness (resists all solvents/acids), Ultra-low friction coefficient (0.04-0.1), Continuous service up to 260°C (500°F), Exceptional dielectric properties
Weaknesses
Prone to cold flow (creep under load), Poor radiation resistance, Machining difficulty (requires specialized tooling)
Process compatibility
Compression molding, CNC machining, paste extrusion, ram extrusion
Surface Treatment
Sodium etching, plasma treatment (for adhesives), laser texturing

Critical Processing Requirements

Sintering Profile: Requires 380°C ±5°C for 4-8 hrs (ramp rate 30°C/hr) to achieve >90% crystallinity

Cold Flow Behavior: Creep deformation occurs under sustained load; design safety factor ≥3× required

Machining Guidelines: High-speed tools (500-800 m/min) with neutral rake angles; avoid clamping deformation

Chemical Industry Applications

Corrosion Resistance: Impervious to all acids (including aqua regia), bases, and solvents except molten alkali metals and fluorine gas

Lining Systems: 3-10 mm thick sheets bonded to steel vessels for sulfuric acid storage (≥98% concentration)

Electrical & Tribological Advantages

High-Frequency Insulation: Dielectric constant 2.1 @ 1GHz (lowest among solids) for 5G antenna components

Sealing Systems: Self-lubricating in cryogenic LNG pumps (-162°C) with PV limit 15,000 psi·ft/min

Aluminum Alloys for Machining

LML offers several aluminum alloys in its long list of available manufacturing materials. Two of those alloys are especially well-suited material options for CNC machining, whether milling or turning: Aluminum 6061 and 7075.Aluminum 7075 T651 and T7: Benefits include high strength, hardness, low weight, corrosion resistance, and high heat tolerance. See data sheet for more information.Aluminum 2024 T3: This high-strength alloy offers a high strength-to-weight ratio and high corrosion resistance.
