Critical Processing Requirements

Drying: Mandatory at 150°C for 3-5 hours (moisture ≤0.02%) to prevent bubbling and strength loss[7](@ref)

Melt Temperature: 380-400°C (±5°C tolerance) – degradation occurs above 420°C[5](@ref)

Stress Relief: Post-molding annealing at 200°C (2-4 hours) optimizes crystallinity (30-40%)[3](@ref)

Medical Applications

Implants: Elastic modulus 3.6 GPa matches human bone, prevents stress shielding in joint replacements (20+ year lifespan)[9](@ref)

Sterilization: Withstands 3,000+ steam sterilization cycles at 134°C without degradation[1](@ref)

Aerospace Advantages

Weight Reduction: 20% lighter than metal alloys while maintaining strength at 260°C continuous service[6](@ref)

Radiation Resistance: Tolerates γ-radiation doses up to 1100 Mrad (nuclear reactor levels)[7](@ref)

Aluminum Alloys for Machining

LML offers several aluminum alloys in its long list of available manufacturing materials. Two of those alloys are especially well-suited material options for CNC machining, whether milling or turning: Aluminum 6061 and 7075.Aluminum 7075 T651 and T7: Benefits include high strength, hardness, low weight, corrosion resistance, and high heat tolerance. See data sheet for more information.Aluminum 2024 T3: This high-strength alloy offers a high strength-to-weight ratio and high corrosion resistance.
