Key Technical Notes

  • Material Drying Required: All nylon grades require drying (80-90°C for 4-6 hours) before processing to prevent hydrolysis degradation
  • Water Absorption Effects: Dimensions change up to 1-3% after moisture absorption; critical for precision components
  • Glass Transition Temperatures: PA6: 50°C, PA66: 60°C, PA12: 40°C
  • Reinforced Material Handling: Use carbide tools for glass-filled grades; mold steel hardness >52 HRC recommended

Processing Recommendations

  • Melt temperature should be kept below 320°C to avoid thermal degradation
  • For thin-wall parts, increase mold temperature to 80-100°C
  • Minimum wall thickness varies by application: 0.5-1.0mm for electronics, 2-4mm for automotive
  • Gate design should be at least 60-80% of part thickness for injection molding

Post-Processing & Quality Control

  • Annealing: 160-180°C for 2-4 hours, slow cooling (30°C/hour) to reduce internal stresses
  • Humidity Control: Store parts at 23°C, 50% RH for 48hrs before dimensional verification
  • Adhesion Enhancement: Plasma treatment required for painting/printing on nylon surfaces
  • Tolerance Guidelines: ISO 286 tolerance grades IT8-IT10 for injection molding

Aluminum Alloys for Machining

LML offers several aluminum alloys in its long list of available manufacturing materials. Two of those alloys are especially well-suited material options for CNC machining, whether milling or turning: Aluminum 6061 and 7075.Aluminum 7075 T651 and T7: Benefits include high strength, hardness, low weight, corrosion resistance, and high heat tolerance. See data sheet for more information.Aluminum 2024 T3: This high-strength alloy offers a high strength-to-weight ratio and high corrosion resistance.
